Biliary Stricture

Biliary Stricture is a digestive or hepatobiliary term involving the gastrointestinal tract, liver, gallbladder, bile ducts or their normal functions.
Depending on its cause, it may be associated with pain, vomiting, jaundice, altered bowel function, bleeding, distension or abnormal liver-related tests.
Evaluation can involve blood chemistry, ultrasound, CT, MRI, endoscopy, contrast studies or tissue sampling to define the anatomical and functional problem.
Care may require dietary measures, medication, endoscopic intervention, drainage, surgery or treatment of an underlying inflammatory, obstructive or malignant process.
Urgency increases when biliary stricture is accompanied by sepsis, obstruction, perforation, major bleeding or progressive organ dysfunction.
