Berylliosis

Berylliosis is a respiratory-medicine term involving the airways, lungs, breathing mechanics or a procedure used to evaluate pulmonary disease.
Patients may develop cough, sputum, wheeze, breathlessness, low oxygen levels or recurrent infection depending on the airway and lung tissue affected.
Chest imaging, spirometry, oxygen measurements, bronchoscopy, cultures or other pulmonary tests help distinguish structural, inflammatory and infectious causes.
Management can include inhaled or systemic medicines, airway clearance, oxygen, antimicrobial treatment, bronchoscopy or surgery when clinically indicated.
The significance of berylliosis depends on respiratory reserve and whether the process is acute, chronic, reversible or associated with permanent lung damage.
